House Extension - Outer Sanctum

HPT were pleased to be involved with Outer Sanctum Design & Build on a ground floor house extension in Hungerford.

A fast track solution was initially the driver in metal faced panel selection along with superb air tightness and a speedily assembled cold rolled frame build using components sourced from WA Browne.

The HPT Control 30 giving a 0.16 u value on its own, offered easy integration with the other building components utilised and were used to form the insulation for all walls, roof and the floor.

APRIL 2014

Dundee Coldstores

Dundee Coldstores (a farmers cooperative) required a complete roof replacement on their freezer Gourdie Industrial Estate, Dundee, which has been a coldstore at this site since the mid-seventies. Naturally after this period of time, the roof had badly degraded, leaking both from the inside and outside with ice building up due to the cold bridging effect.  

Century Installations took up the challenge along with main contractor Algo Blairgowrie and the first task was to remove the original roof of a built up nature, being made up of a trapezoidal seel deck, filled with a loose fill rockwool type quilted insulation followed by timber sheet and asphalt/felt style outer layer.

The main contactor then installed additional supporting steelwork to the existing hot rolled steel sections on approx. 2.5m centres. This allowed for a wider ‘landing’ area for the butt ends of the HPT panels to be fixed upon.
 
WR Consultants worked in conjunction with both HPT & Century to provide panels generally at around 4.4m long at the perimeter of the building and 6.6m at the centre. The lengths optimised to combat additional wind load at the eaves position of the building & also to allow for natural bowing movement of the panels, given the extremes in temperature between the internal and external environment.     

Special SFS stainless steel self-drive screws with build in washer to minimise any cold bridge through the fastener were selected to fix the panels at their ends, three no. per end on 385mm centres. Additionally pull over testing was carried out by SFS specifically on the 200mm HPT Carrier panel utilised on the project.

Finally an EPDM membrane was installed by a specialist roofing contractor and this was mechanically fixed directly to the face of the HPT Carrier panel, for complete protection from the elements.

Hemsec SIPs News

Hemsec  Panel Technologies’ sister company Hemsec SIPs are pleased to announce they now offer an 11mm / 11mm OSB/3 SIPS panel.

Hemsec have been at the forefront of SIPs Manufacturing for many years, building on valuable experience gained from commercial projects and structurally demanding builds such as hotels, schools and high rise infill applications.

The 15mm / 15mm OSB/3 SIPs panel has performed well for these projects. Utilising the same technology, we have engineered a derivative of the 15mm product more economically and also without compromise to its structural performance.
With the returning growth of the housing market in the UK, the raised awareness of ‘fabric first’ and the new part-L in April, we feel that now is the time to develop our product further for this sector.

Hemsec SIPs will still be manufacturing the 15mm product for the more demanding commercial projects, where ‘pull out’ performance may be critical, such as offering rainscreen support or structural loads. The 15mm OSB utilised for this product is still currently manufactured at a width of 1200mm, with the eventual integration of the standard 1220mm OSB/3 board across all our product ranges in the near future.

The 11mm SIPs are supplied with the same comprehensive thickness range from 100mm right up to 252mm. The product is further complimented by the use of ‘SIP’ splines (available on most thicknesses) & our recent capability to offer a manufactured 50mm all-round rebate to the SIPs panel further reduces engineering and excessive labour costs of site forming this operation. The cover width for the 11mm product has been changed to a more recognised industry standard of 1220mm.

Premier Interlink

Premier Interlink (Waco UK Ltd) based in Brandesburton, are a UK market leader in the development of stylish modular buildings and functional, temporary accommodation solutions.

Whilst designing a canteen and locker/changing room facility for a client based in Cheshire they looked to Hemsec Panel Technologies to provide a solution to the external envelope.

Well engineered joints, superb surface finishes and a quick on-site build solution were high on the agenda for Martin Harrison who is Premier Interlinks Technical Buyer. Air tightness and an outstanding thermal performance were also very important to this project.

Ticking all the boxes, with a fast ‘thru fix’ construction method, a snug panel to panel interface providing excellent air tightness and the PIR foam core (best thermal performance in its class of insulation - 0.2 for the 100mm panel) HPT External panels were the ideal choice.

The blended BASF PIR foam technology which HPT utilise, guarantees a stable and rigid insulation core, and the aesthetically pleasing Merlin Grey steel used on the external face of this project resulted in a high quality build.
